BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Music
The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Music is an intensive and exciting 2-year course, delivered by highly-qualified teaching staff.
This qualification has a strong practical basis giving students the opportunity to develop their personal potential and acquire a wide range of practical skills which will support further study or entry into employment in relevant industries. The course makes extensive use of BOA’s excellent resources including a recital room, 11 practice rooms and a Recording Studio. This is a specialist programme and is aimed at students who already have a passion for and experience of music.

How is the course structured?
The Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Music consists of 4 Modules over 2 years. The modules are made up of assessment units that contribute to the final overall grade awarded at the end of the course.
Module A : Music Skills Development
• Performing as an ensemble
• Creating Musical Material
• Using musical styles
Module C : The Music Industry
• Planning a career in the industry
Module D : Personal Music Profile
• Using development plans to refine skills
• Producing a personal project
• Using material for self promotion and networking
Module E : Collaborative Music Project
• Undertaking a defined technical project role
• Using creative collaborative to develop a project
• Producing a collaborative project
One or two units from different modules are usually taught in parallel
How will I study?
The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Music is entirely coursework based and so students will build up a portfolio of evidence such as; written work, websites, video recordings, photographs and audio recordings.
BOA works in partnership with a range of performing arts providing students with opportunities to further enhance their vocational skills.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment for this course will be based on evidence collected in student log books, written reports and essays, presentations, live performances, recorded material (both audio and video) and teacher observations. Meeting deadlines is an important part of the professional music industry and also the assessment process. Unit assessment deadlines will be communicated with students and parents and it is expected that these will be met in all cases.
