Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance
The Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme at
Birmingham Ormiston Academy aims to:
- Inspire and motivate students to fulfil their potential.
- Encourage every student to consider a broad and ambitious range of progression routes and careers
- Enable students to become self-governing, independent and resilient to ensure that they leave school prepared for life in modern Britain
- Provide access to high quality work experience opportunities.
- Provide access to Independent Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) through our partnerships with employers, educational and apprenticeship providers.
- Deliver high quality, impartial information advice and guidance that is tailored to each student’s individual needs through a one-to-one meeting with the Progression Officer.
- Support every student in making a successful transition into Post-16 and Post-18 Education, Employment and Training.
- Engage Parents/Carers in the careers programme to enable every young person to make informed choices for their future.
- Adhere to the Career Development Institutes Code of Ethics to provide a service that promotes equality, confidentiality and impartiality.
BOA is committed to the Government’s Careers Strategy to provide a high quality careers programme for all students and to fulfil the following benchmarks:

The impact of the careers programme is measured through a number of methods, including:
- Self-evaluation via Compass: Careers Benchmark Tool
- Monitoring and evaluation via a third party careers advice service: BEP (Birmingham Education Partnership)
- Destination Report and Data for Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers. (Further information can be found on our Destinations page)
- Feedback from students on their experience of the careers education, information, advice and guidance received.
- Feedback from staff on careers lessons/events and work experience programme.
- Gathering feedback from key stakeholders including employers, partners and parents.

What support is available?
At BOA, we aim to support students in making important choices for their future and provide Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance through a range of mediums.
All students have the opportunity to:
- Meet for a 1-2-1 meeting with a qualified careers advisor.
- Attend the Futures Information Evening
(An event for parents and students to receive further information to provide advice and guidance on the options available after BOA. Representatives from HE and Apprenticeship providers)
- Receive valuable information and guidance through presentations delivered at appropriate points throughout their time at BOA. (E.g. UCAS, Personal Statements & CV Writing, Student Finance)
- Work with professionals in the creative industries and receive support seeking valuable work experience opportunities.
