Co-opted Governors

"A governor's role should be an enjoyable experience... we strive to ensure the correct balance between challenge, support and creative input."

Co-opted governors are appointed by BOA's Academy Governing Board (AGB).  They are appointed because they possess the right skills to contribute to the effective governance and success of the academy.  It is usual for co-opted governors to contribute their knowledge and expertise to one (or more) of the following areas:

1. The creative, digital and performing arts specialisms

2. Standards & Quality Assurance

3. Financial performance and fundraising

4. Curriculum innovation and curriculum design

5. Health & Safety

6. Careers education and guidance

7. Policies and statutory duties

8. Marketing and communication

December 2024:

We are currently seeking new members to join the AGB as co-opted governors.  If you are interested in the voluntary position and feel you have the right skills and experience for the role, please contact Mr. Julian Widdows (Chair of the Academy Governing Board), who will arrange an appropriate time for an initial conversation.

Please read the Governor Pack (which can be found in the Attachments section), as this contains welcome letters from the Principal and current members of the AGB, as well as an outline of the governor role and its commitment.

Eligibility:

Any individual from the community can be a co-opted governor, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria and agree to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, as required.

Please refer to the 'Eligibility for Governance' document (in the Attachments section at the bottom of this webpage) for all guidance on eligibility, removal and disqualification.
