How is the course structured?
The course involves four units, assessed via two exams.
America, 1840–1895: Expansion and consolidation
This period study focuses on the development of America during a turbulent half century of change, studying the role of ideas and key individuals in shaping these changes.
Conflict and tension in Asia, 1950-1975
This wider world in depth study enables students to explore how the battle between the USA and the USSR expanded east to Korea and Vietnam and made the Cold War a truly global conflict
Britain: Health and the people: c1000 to the present day
This thematic study will enable students to gain an understanding of how medicine and public health developed in Britain over a long period of time.
Elizabethan England 1568-1603
This option allows students to study in depth the ‘Golden Age’ of the ‘Virgin Queen;’ a time of invasion, religious tension, exploration and the greatest Queen Britain has ever known…
How will I learn and be assessed?
In History you will be expected to develop the skills you have used throughout Key Stage 3 – analysis of evidence, reaching conclusions, constructing a logical argument. These skills, along with good basic literacy skills, will help you to be successful at GCSE in History.
Two 2hr exams – both at the end of the two year programme
