BTEC Level 2 First Diploma: Performing Arts
What will I learn on this course?
The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma is a practical and vocational course that is aimed at students who have an interest in acting and would like to extend their natural talent in the Performing Arts field. The course is delivered by knowledgeable and experienced staff in state-of-the-art facilities.
You will learn a range of acting techniques; exploring voice, movement and developing a character as well as understanding rehearsal skills and preparing for a performance. To support these skills you will study improvisation and acting skills and show your practical response to a variety of stimuli. In addition to the acquisition of these specialist subject skills you will also learn about working in the wider Performing Arts industry and the jobs and opportunities available to you.
This course will interest students who have already been involved in Key Stage 3 Drama and taken part in productions either in or out of school.
How is the course structured?
The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Acting consists of 7 specific skills units studied over two years. These are individually assessed with Pass, Merit and Distinction grades.
The course will explore working in the Performing Arts industry, Professional Development in the Performing Arts industry, Performing Arts Production Process and Acting Skills and Techniques.
How will I study?
You will learn through practical performance based workshops, rehearsals, personal study, seminars, performances and coursework. You will be expected to be a self-starter, capable of developing your own ideas as well as being able to work as part of a team to achieve common goals. BOA will provide opportunities for you to work with professional artistes, partners and community organisations to support your own learning and development.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through your participation in practical workshops, various performances and written documentation that you keep in your on-going log book.
